Gas Fireplace Maintenance in Mission Viejo, CA

Pilot drops out, glass hazes over, or the burner smells wrong

Most calls start one of three ways. The pilot lights, then dies when you release the knob. The flame burns lazy and orange. Or a sharp odor fills the room on the first burn of the season. These are different faults. A dying pilot usually points to a weak thermopile or a dirty thermocouple tip. Millivolt output gets measured, not guessed. Orange tips and soot usually mean logs sit out of position, blocking burner ports, or ember material has been packed over them.

Dry months here bring spider webbing into pilot assemblies and burner venturis. It happens often, and it chokes gas flow before anything else does. The pilot hood, injector and air shutter get cleaned and the flame pattern checked against the manufacturer's log layout.

Sealed direct-vent units in post-2009 homes are a separate job. The glass front is a combustion seal. Its gasket hardens, latches loosen, and the unit starts spilling or shutting down on its own safety. Haze on the inside of that glass is normal residue. It gets cleaned with the right product, not household glass cleaner.

Vented log sets retrofitted into older masonry or prefab fireboxes need the flue looked at too. A damper clamped shut, or a chase cover rusted through and dripping into the firebox, will undo any burner work.
